THE PATHETIC "I’M JUST DOING MY JOB"
January 12th, 2009 | Published in Uncategorized

Last night Kyle Hanson, Joe Montoya, Nicole and myself went to Palm Springs to ride and film some clips. When the sun dropped we headed over to the local Palm Springs skate park to continue the clips under the lights. I was sitting with Nicole filming Joe, Kyle was riding and about a dozen kids were skating..all of us were enjoying the time.
Until 3 patrol cars and 4 officers showed up from PSPD and got on the loud speaker and told everyone not to move. They rolled up classic style with bad attitudes and created a scene as if we all just committed a bank robbery.
I had to say something about their attitude, they are public servants and should treat every person with respect no matter what. Especially in this case since nobody did anything what so ever to receive this kind of treatment.
After I spoke up to their miss use of the position they hold as an officer and the fact that they are intruding on a park full of nothing but honest people enjoying themselves, they explained basically that they really only work for the older more wealthy people, and are just doing their job as those people see fit, don’t even think for themselves. The officer bet that the City of Palm Springs probably regrets ever building the skate park because it creates nothing but problems.
Obviously the Officers the city employs have a low education of what skate parks and public facilities mean to the people that use them. A local skate park may be the most positive thing many kids have in their life, the city should be praised for having such a facility. I will be sending letters to the City council about my experience.
I did get a ticket along with Kyle and Joe for bikes in the park… essentially playing soccer on a football field. Just shows that the City of Palm Springs is ignorant to the idea of multiple use at parks.
Even though we were told to leave the skate park and were the first to receive our citations the officers continued to write every person at the park a ticket for no safety equipment. If anyone who was there last night reads this i looked up the ordinance for the safety equipment which shows it expired Jan 1st of 2008. Maybe it hasn’t been updated but see it here. Oh and here is the City of Palm Springs, CA ordinance that refers to the safety gear code. Just search 11.44.110 it will be under B.
The best about all this is the sign out front says “Ride at your own risk” lol!
